Centralis Competition
On Saturday, November 6, 2021, I volunteered as an essay proctor for Central Michigan University’s Centralis Competition.
As someone who participated in the Centralis competition last year, I was incredibly excited when I heard that I could help this year’s applicants. I figured since Centralis had already opened many opportunities to me, helping aid in the process would be amazing.
We began the day by having all of the proctors sit together and talk amongst themselves in order to become acquainted as we waited for participants. We then walked to Grawn Hall and prepared the computers of our testing room. Once Dr. Barco and her TAs completed their presentation, we led our group of 30 prospective Honors students to Grawn Hall and welcomed them to their testing room. The proctors then went through the testing instructions to the participants and began the 40 minute testing timer. The test ran smoothly without any instructions, then we walked the participants back to the University Center to reunite with their families. We stayed around for a while to answer any questions they might have had, then we were dismissed.
I enjoyed helping aid in this year’s Centralis competition. It was not the most exciting PDP event that I have taken part in, given the nature of the event. However, it was still exciting to be able to see next year’s potential honors students. Not only that, but to also be able to interact with them, ask them about their ambitions, and answer any of their questions was a blessing.
